Conference opportunities for MSU students conducting global health-related research are offered and organized by MSU colleges, along with universities and organizations across the United States and the world. Presenting research at conferences is a great way for both undergraduate and medical students to present findings in front of field experts and faculty, add research experience to CVs and increase potential for publication.
Research Day is an annual event hosted by the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine that showcases the innovative research of MSUCOM residents, fellows, faculty, medical and graduate students. The college-wide platform, in collaboration with affiliated healthcare systems, provides an opportunity to present projects, exchange ideas and celebrate excellence in clinical and basic research, medical education and quality improvement. Student submissions are open to all MSUCOM medical and graduate students.
Annually, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and the Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA) hold the OMED Virtual Poster Session & Student Competition. This virtual conference is a great opportunity for students and experienced researchers alike to showcase their work on a national stage and create networking opportunities. Approved abstracts will also be published online in the Journal of Osteopathic Medicine.
Abstracts must be clinical, basic science, health services, public health, or international health studies, falling into one of the following recognized AOA categories:
Osteopathic physicians, faculty, medical students and individuals practicing in scientific or public health research are eligible to submit abstracts. Abstracts are usually due in the summer, while the conference is held in the fall. This year's conference will be held on October 23, 2026.
